PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilizing apparatus excellent in sterilizing effect and a sterilization method using the apparatus.SOLUTION: A sterilizing apparatus comprises an active oxygen irradiation unit 4 that generates plasma using an alternating current and irradiates an object with active oxygen generated using the obtained plasma, and an irradiation table 8 on which an object to be sterilized is mounted, wherein the irradiation table 8 has an active oxygen barrier structure 9 disposed at least one of above, below, or horizontally with respect to the object to be sterilized.
