Trehalose-based hydrogels and methods for making such hydrogels are disclosed. Specifically, a method of creating a trehalose-based hydrogel comprising: a) forming a trehalose homopolymer or copolymer； b) preparing a cross-linking agent； and c) said cross-linking the trehalose homopolymer or copolymer.
