One, two, three or more polyols from group A comprising optionally branched 3-12C alkanediols and alkanetriols, is used for enhancing cooling effect of cooling substance on skin or mucous membrane. The substance comprises physiologically cooling compound or mixture of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or more physiologically cooling compounds. Independent claims are included for: (1) a cooling mixture comprising a cooling substance comprising physiologically cooling compound or mixture of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or more physiologically cooling compounds and one, two, three or more polyols from group A comprising optionally branched 3-12C alkanediols and alkanetriols； (2) a cosmetic composition or sanitary article comprising cooling mixture； (3) a method for generating cooling mixture or cosmetic composition comprising providing mixing cooling substance and one, two, three or more polyols from group A；and (4) a method for generating enhanced cooling effect of cooling substance on skin or mucous membrane comprising contacting cooling mixture or cosmetic composition with skin or a mucous membrane.
