The present invention relates to an apparatus comprising a catheter (44) for intravascular use wherein the catheter (44) has a blood inlet (100) and a blood outlet (15) (4 ') disposed in the catheter (44) such that at least a portion of the blood flowing into the catheter (44) through the catheter (100) contacts the membrane (4'). The membrane 4 'allows exchange of at least one substance exchanged between the transport medium and the blood, and the transport medium is a transport liquid from which the material to be exchanged can be dissolved. The catheter 44 includes a transfer device 65 configured to at least partially compensate for the pressure differential between the blood inlet 100 and the blood outlet 15 during operation of the device.
