Systems and devices for controlling saliva production by a salivary duct. Anexemplary system (550) includes a saliva control device (100). A vacuum is appliedto a salivary duct to allow attachment of the device (100) over the salivary duct. The vacuum may be applied by means of a hand-held manually actuable pump apparatussuch as a syringe-type apparatus that can be operated using a single hand. Oneembodiment of the saliva control device (100) includes an elastic body (102)comprising at least one elastomer and a constriction hole (104) formed throughthe elastic body. The stiffness of the elastic body (102) and/or the diameterof the constriction hole (104) are configured to provide a degree of constrictionto a salivary duct sufficient to prevent a flow of saliva from the duct withoutcutting off blood flow to tissue surrounding the salivary duct.
