PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fluid from flowing out from a lateral port by a port valve in a catheter assembly.SOLUTION: A port (50) is disposed in a catheter adapter (14) provided in a catheter assembly (10), for providing selective access to the interior of the catheter adapter. The port (50) extends from the lateral part of the catheter adapter in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the catheter adapter. A port valve (60) is disposed within the catheter adapter to control access between the interior of the catheter adapter and the port.
