PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversibly deformable artificial cornea and a method for planting the same.SOLUTION: An artificial cornea is formed of a hydrogel polymer and includes a monolithic body having a center optic surrounded by an annular rim. The artificial cornea is inserted into a center front opening in a cornea, and, in consequence, the annular rim is placed into an annular pocket surrounding the opening. The height of the center optic coincides with the depth of the center opening, and, in consequence, the level of the artificial cornea coincides with the level of the natural cornea. In one embodiment, a reversibly deformable artificial cornea is provided, and the artificial cornea includes a monolithic body having a diameter between 4-10 mm, including a center optic surrounded by a rim. The center optic has a diameter in the range of 3-9 mm, and the optic height in the range of 200-800 μm.
