Restraint apparatus (10) for restraining a subject, for example, a person or an animal, comprises a first restraint arrangement (12) which is attachable to one part (eg a wrist or ankle) of the subject, a second restraint arrangement (14) which is attachable to another part (eg another wrist or ankle) of the subject, and a connection arrangement (16) linking the first and second restraint arrangements (12, 14). The connection arrangement (16) includes a flexible connector member (18) and a locking device (20).
