The support jaws includes a frame, a plurality of fixed supply elements and a well. The plurality of fixed supply elements extends from the frame. Each of the fixed supply elements is configured to support a staple. Each of the fixed supply elements comprises a trough. The well is formed between the fixed supply elements. The well is arranged to receive the staple cartridge plate. The thrust jaw is movably connected to the support jaw. The thrust jaw can be moved between the inactive position and the actuating position. The thrust jaw includes a surface contacting with the tissue and a plurality of pockets for staples, designed for staple deformation. The thrust jaw further includes a longitudinal slot configured to receive at least a portion of the cutting element, and the grooves are not parallel to the longitudinal slot. For the second version of the surgical stapler end effector, each fixed supply element has an outer perimeter, the said outer perimeter is narrowed. For the third version of the surgical stapler end effector, the a plurality of staples extends at least partially through the plate. The plate is able to slide relative to the staples between the inactive position and the actuating position. Each fixed supply element comprises a groove adapted to receive the staple base. The thrust jaw further includes a longitudinal slot configured to receive at least a portion of the cutting element, and the grooves are not parallel to the longitudinal slot.
