The present invention to develop controlled release in situ gel of verapamil HCl for gastro-retentive drug delivery which could be retained in upper G.I.T for prolong period of time up to 24 hours so that drug can release from dosage form in controlled manner within the absorption zone of G.I.T. Formulation containing verapamil HCl (0.9-2.7%)w/v, sodium alginate (1-2.5%)w/v, HPMC K15M (0.5-2.5%) w/v, HPMC K100M (0.5-2.5%) w/v, Calcium Carbonate (0.5-2.5%) w/v, Tri Sodium Citrate (0.1-0.75)% w/v, Sodium Methyl Paraben (1-2)% w/v in purified Water (100 mL) is claimed to be most promising controlled release in situ gel of verapamil HCl for gastro-retentive drug delivery. It could improve gastric retention time of formulation along with the release behavior of verapamil HCl, therapeutic efficiency and reduced frequent dosing.
