The cap, preferably of plastics, has on the inside protrusions formed by straight webs (5) to bridge the minimum spacing between the inside of the lower cap section (4) and the periphery of the post. When fitted on the post the cap is fixed by the pressure of the protrusions against the post. The webs can taper in cross-section away from the inside of the lower cap section.
