The present disclosure discloses compositions and methods for multipurpose disinfecting and sterilizing solutions that are broadly effective against multiple pathogenic bacteria. The present disclosure demonstrates broad spectrum antibacterial activity against environmental and pathogenic amoeba, bacterial spores, plant bacteria, fungi, rickettsia, viruses, parasites and toxic microbial products. The multipurpose disinfecting solution of the present disclosure may be used alone or in combination for a variety of purposes, including disinfection of medical devices such as contact lenses, contact lens cases, surgical instruments, and dental instruments.
