PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To position a massage mechanism not only in a vertical direction but also in a front/rear direction.SOLUTION: In a position change method of a treatment element of a chair type massage machine according to the invention, in the chair type massage machine comprising a back massage device 1 including: a grip massage mechanism including a massage element 12 and a grip element 9 approaching/separating to/from the massage element 12 vertical position detection means detecting a vertical position corresponding to the treatment portion of a user front/rear movement means 27 moving the massage element 12 and grip element 9 in a front/rear direction, when a front/rear direction position of the massage element 12 and grip element 9 is changed, the vertical position corresponding to the treatment portion of the user is detected by the vertical position detection means, and then the massage element 12 and grip element 9 are moved along the front/rear direction with the detected vertical position as a reference.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
