A method for preparing an immunogenic composition, said method comprising: (a) identifying or selecting a first porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) isolate, said first isolate comprising a first GP5 polypeptide containing a first hypervariable HV-2 region in the GP5 ectodomain； (b) identify or select a second PRRSV isolate, said second isolate comprising a second GP5 polypeptide containing a second hypervariable HV-2 region in the GP5 ectodomain； (c) combining viral particles of said first and second isolates to form an immunogenic composition； where: - each viral particle comprises a membrane bound GP5 polypeptide； - the first and second regions HV-2 are different from each other； and where: - each of the identification or selection steps (a) and (b) comprises amino acid sequencing, nucleic acid sequencing or PCR-based detection of the HV-2 hypervariable region of the PRRSV GP5 ectodomain of the PRRSV isolate.Un método para preparar una composición inmunogénica, comprendiendo dicho método: (a) identificar o seleccionar un primer aislado de virus del síndrome reproductivo y respiratorio porcino (PRRSV), comprendiendo dicho primer aislado un primer polipéptido GP5 que contiene una primera región hipervariable HV-2 en el ectodominio GP5； (b) identificar o seleccionar un segundo aislado de PRRSV, comprendiendo dicho segundo aislado un segundo polipéptido GP5 que contiene una segunda región hipervariable HV-2 en el ectodominio GP5； (c) combinar partículas virales de dicho primer y segundo aislado para formar una composición inmunogénica； donde: - cada partícula viral comprende un polipéptido GP5 unido a membrana； - la primera y segunda regiones HV-2 son diferentes entre sí； y donde: - cada una de las etapas de identificación o selección (a) y (b) comprende secuenciación de aminoácidos, secuenciación de ácido nucleico o detección basada en PCR de la región hipervariable HV-2 del ectodominio GP5 de PRRSV del aislado PRRSV.
