A clot removal device (3000, 3020), comprising a proximal pinch section, a distal section, and a proximal joint. The proximal pinch section (3001, 3021) is configured for engagement with clot and comprises a plurality of proximally facing struts (3007) and a plurality of distally facing struts (3008), wherein at least some of the proximally facing struts have a length that is greater than a length of at least some of the distally facing struts. The distal section (3002, 3022) has a cylindrical or barrel shape and has a diameter larger than a diameter of the proximal pinch section. The distal section includes first distal radiopaque markers. Second radiopaque markers (3005, 3025) are located at a transition between the proximal pinch section and the distal section. The proximal joint (3006, 3026) is located between the proximal end of the pinch section and an elongate shaft.
