PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a sliding member excellent in wear resistance and oxidation resistance.SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a sliding material 10 according to the present invention includes the steps of: molding a base material 12 containing a radical scavenger and a polymer material cleaning at least a part 16 of the surface of the base material 12 with a cleaning liquid and fixing a polymer chain having a phosphorylcholine group to the part 16 of the surface after cleaning by graft bonding, to form a polymer membrane 30 on the part of the surface.
