The invention relates to a thread, comprising a thread core and a sheath surrounding the thread core, wherein the thread has at least one longitudinal thread segment along which the thread core has a diameter that varies in a longitudinal direction of the thread and/or the sheath has a thickness that varies in the longitudinal direction of the thread. The invention further relates to a method for producing a thread, wherein a thread core component and a sheath component are coextruded from a shaping outlet opening of an extrusion device, a thread having a thread core and having a sheath surrounding the thread core thus being formed, wherein in order to form a core diameter that varies in the longitudinal direction of the thread and/or in order to form a sheath thickness that varies in the longitudinal direction of the thread, the mass throughput of the thread core component and/or of the sheath component is varied and/or the thread is drawn off at a varying speed after exiting from the outlet opening. The invention further relates to a thread that can be obtained or produced according to the method, to a technical textile, to a medial product, to a kit, in particular in the form of a needle/thread combination, and to the use of the thread to produce a thread without a core-sheath structure having a thread diameter that varies in the longitudinal thread direction.
