Provided is a radiation image pickup device which reduces a test subjects unnecessary exposure to radiation and enables the test subject to be reliably positioned with respect to the image pickup range. According to the configuration of the present invention, positioning of an image pickup range is carried out by causing a technician to select one point on a preview image (Pv). More specifically, the image pickup range is moved so that a portion of the test subject, such portion corresponding to the one point selected by the technician from the preview image (Pv), becomes the center of the image pickup range. By configuring in this manner, adjustment of the position of the image pickup range can be reliably carried out without picking up live images. Due to this configuration, in comparison with conventional image pickup methods, the amount of radiation the test subject is exposed to can be reduced. Unlike image pickup for a live image, the image pickup time for a preview image (Pv) is short, and thus the amount of radiation emitted to the test subject can be reduced by that much.
