An air treatment apparatus comprises: a housing (15) defining an air flow path between an inlet (11) and an outlet (15); an air flow impeller (23) arranged for inducing a flow of air 37 through said air flow path; and an electrode assembly 24 suspended within the air flow path 37 and orientated transverse to the induced air flow path; wherein the electrode assembly 24 is configured to operably generate a plasma discharge circumferentially about a longitudinal axis of the electrode assembly and within which particles or constituents of air within the induced air flow 37 will be exposed to the plasma. Preferably the electrode assembly 24 is cylindrically shaped and comprises an inner (510) and outer mesh 49 separated by a cylindrical dielectric barrier.
