Microbial oil that contains dihomo-γ-linolenic acid as a constituent fatty acid of the oil, and the content of arachidonic acid relative to dihomo-γ-linolenic acid is less than 1/13 by weight ratio (arachidonic acid / dihomo-γ-linolenic acid) . Preferably, the microbial oil has a triglyceride content of 70% by weight or more and a saturated fatty acid content of 40% by weight or less. Further provided is a lower alcohol ester or free fatty acid of dihomo-γ-linolenic acid obtained from the microbial oil.
