The present invention relates to a height control system for a harvestingattachment(1), comprising a frame (2), at least one harvest intake apparatus, and aground-copying cutter bar (6) which is arranged on a plurality of support arms(12) that can bepivoted around at least one horizontal axis and that are hinged to the frame(2), whereinthe support arms (12), starting at a required position (RP) which is set priorto com-mencing harvesting operations, are pivoted between an upper end position (25)whichlimits the deflection of the support arms (12) towards the harvest intakeapparatus,and a lower end position (24), with the upper end position (25) featuring afirstdistance (26) and the lower end position (24) a second distance (27) from therequiredposition (RP), and wherein the required position (RP) is adjustable inresponse tochanging harvesting conditions and/or operating conditions during harvesting,basedon a deflection of the cutter bar (6), in order to minimize the first distance(26) andmaximize the second distance (27).
