A sternum reinforcing device to be used after a sternotomy or a sternalfracture, made of abiocompatible material, comprises an elongated modular member with a pair oflegs, that arejoined each other by a body portion, and a pair of arms. The legs can befitted in an intercostalspace of the thorax of a patient, laterally to the sternum, and can be bent ina mutually oppositedirection, on the internal side of the thorax, after being fitted therein. Thearms, extending fromone side to the other of the body portion and orthogonally to the pair oflegs, constitute a malepart and a female part, respectively, of a prismatic type coupling forconsecutive modularmembers.
