The invention relates to a method for monitoring a property of the appearance of the teeth of a patient, said method including the following consecutive steps: A) acquiring, by means of a first acquisition apparatus, at least one first two-dimensional image of said teeth and of a first reference gauge, referred to as "initial image"； B) acquiring, by means of a second acquisition apparatus, at least one second two-dimensional image of said teeth and of a second reference gauge having the same appearance as the first reference gauge, referred to as "updated image"； C) standardising the initial and updated images such that the representations of the first and second reference gauges on the standardised initial and updated images have the same appearance； D) before or after step C, marking the same region of the teeth on the initial and updated images； and E) comparing the appearance of said region in the standardised initial and updated images.L'invention concerne un procédé de contrôle d'une propriété d'aspect de dents d'un patient, ledit procédé comportant les étapes successives suivantes: A) acquisition, au moyen d'un premier appareil d'acquisition, d'au moins une première image bidimensionnelle desdites dents et d'une première jauge de référence, dite « image initiale »； B) acquisition, au moyen d'un deuxième appareil d'acquisition, d'au moins une deuxième image bidimensionnelle desdites dents et d'une deuxième jauge de référence présentant un même aspect que la première jauge de référence, dite « image actualisée »； C) normalisation des images initiale et actualisée de manière que les représentations des première et deuxième jauges de référence sur les images initiale et actualisée normalisées présentent un même aspect； D) avant ou après l'étape C, repérage d'une même région des dents sur les images initiale et actualisée； E) comparaison de l'aspect de ladite région sur les images initiale et actualisée normalisées.
