PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing selective A3 adenosine receptor agonist for preventing or treating prostate cancer is provided to ensure low toxicity and to suppress growth of androgen receptor-dependent or non-dependent prostate cancer cells. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating prostate cancer contains A3 adenosine receptor agonist of chemical formula I or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition additionally contains pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, excipient, or mixture thereof. The pharmaceutical composition is manufactured in the form of tablets, granules, capsules, and powders.본 발명은 선택적 A3 아데노신 수용체 효능제 (agonist), 2-클로로-N6-(3-아이오도벤질)-4′-싸이오아데노신-5′-N-메칠유로나마이드 (thio-Cl-IB-MECA), N6-(3-아이오도벤질)-4′-싸이오아데노신-5′-N-메칠유로나마이드 (thio-IB-MECA), 또는 약제학적으로 허용가능한 이들의 염을 포함하는 전립선암 예방 또는 치료용 약제학적 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 A3 아데노신 수용체 효능제, thio-Cl-IB-MECA 또는 thio-IB-MECA는 낮은 독성을 가질 뿐만 아니라, 다른 A3 아데노신 수용체 효능제에 비하여 보다 더 선택적으로 안드로젠 수용체 의존성 또는 비의존성 전립선 암 세포의 성장을 억제하므로 전립선암의 예방 또는 치료에 유용하다.
