A compound and method for detecting hypoxic cells and tissue are provided. The compound includes a probe selected from the group consisting of a hypoxia sensitive 2-nitroimidazole containing fluorescence imaging probe, a hypoxia sensitive reversible ON-OFF fluorescence imaging probe, a hypoxia sensitive azo-based fluorescence imaging probe, and combinations thereof. The method includes contacting the cells or tissue with the probe of any one of claims 1-13 and detecting fluorescent intensity of the cell or tissue, wherein increased fluorescent intensity indicates that the cells or tissue is hypoxic. Also provided are a method of synthesizing the compound and a method for synthesizing a therapeutic agent including the compound.La présente invention concerne un composé et un procédé permettant de détecter des cellules et un tissu hypoxiques. Le composé comprend une sonde choisie dans le groupe constitué par un 2-nitroimidazole sensible à l'hypoxie contenant une sonde d'imagerie par fluorescence, une sonde d'imagerie par fluorescence activée/désactivée réversible sensible à l'hypoxie, une sonde d'imagerie par fluorescence à base d'un composé azoïque sensible à l'hypoxie, et leurs combinaisons. Le procédé consiste à mettre en contact les cellules ou un tissu avec la sonde selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 13 et à détecter une intensité de fluorescence des cellules ou du tissu, une augmentation de l'intensité de fluorescence indiquant que les cellules ou le tissu est hypoxique. L'invention concerne également un procédé de synthèse du composé et un procédé de synthèse d'un agent thérapeutique comprenant le composé.
