Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen Katheterballon mit einer Beschichtung enhaltend Rapamycin und Schellack und auf eine Methode zur Beschichtung von Katheterballonen, vorzugsweise von strukturierten Katheterballonen, mit dem pharmakologischen Wirkstoff Rapamycin, Schellack und optional weiteren Bestandteilen. Überdies bezieht sich die vorliegende Erfindung auch auf die Verwendung solchermaßen beschichteter Katheterballons für die Freisetzung des pharmazeutischen Wirkstoffs Rapamycin zur Prophylaxe und Behandlung von Restenose, vorzugsweise von durch Angioplastie verursachter Restenose.
