Disclosed are compounds of formula I where the substituents are as defined herein. The compounds are cycloalkenyl aryl oxazolidinone or oxazolidine thione derivatives, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, hydrates thereof, or solvates thereof, an example is (4S,5R)-5-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-3-((2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohexl-enyl)methyl)-4-methyloxazolidin-2-one. Also disclosed are methods for preparing the compounds and pharmaceutical compositions containing the same. The compounds of the present invention show the effect of CETP activity inhibition and therefore the compounds can increase HDL-cholesterol and decrease LDL-cholesterol.
