A specimen collection container for collecting a biological sample such as blood which includes a non-evacuated collection tube (12). The tube (12) includes a vent (82) which is adapted for displacement of air from within the interior chamber of the collection tube to the external environment during collection of a blood sample therein. Desirably, the vent (82) is air permeable and liquid impermeable, and seals upon contact with a liquid sample so as to become air impermeable.
