PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition comprising an enantiomeric equol compound used for the treatment of a disease or body abnormality in mammal and human.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the composition consisting of S-equol, R-equol, or mixtures including non-racemic body and racemic body of equol having chemical structures shown in FIG. 1. The composition can be used to produce commercial items, such as food supplements, pharmaceutical preparations, and pharmaceutical compositions. The compositions are useful in a method of administering S-equol to the mammal to prevent or treat a disease or associated condition, including hormone-dependent diseases such as cardiovascular disease, lipid disorder, osteopenia, osteoporosis, liver disease, and acute ovarian estrogen deficiency. The S-equol enantiomer is produced in a biological synthesis from the metabolism of an isoflavone by an organism.
