The needle guard (fig. 86) includes a proximal portion (522) for connecting to the base of the infusion device, and a distal portion (524) for user interaction. The proximal and distal portions each include at least one axial cutout (532, 534) that divides the needle guard into first and second lateral sides. A fulcrum web (536) is disposed between the proximal and distal axial cutouts to join the first and second lateral sides of the needle guard and provide a fulcrum for relative rotation of the first and second lateral sides of the needle guard.
