A method of forming a looped suture comprising: positioning a first overlapping section of an elongate body in overlapping relation with a second overlapping section of the elongate body to form a loop securing the first overlapping section to the second overlapping section to form a joined segment and forming a tapered surface at a proximal end of the first overlapping section, the tapered surface being tapered with respect to a longitudinal axis of the elongate body and angled downwardly towards a proximal end such that it forms a smooth transition with the second overlapping section.
