PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device and a detection method capable of suppressing the deterioration of visual line detection accuracy.SOLUTION: A detection device includes: an illumination section for irradiating light a detection section for detecting a state of a subject that the light from the illumination section is irradiated to and a comparison section for comparing a parameter value that changes according to the light other than the light irradiated by the illumination section or a value indicating an extent of change in the parameter value to a threshold for acquiring predetermined detection accuracy in the state detection by the detection section.
