A method of destroying a bacterial biofilm present on a surface, comprising applying a composition containing syprose to a bacterial biofilm, the application of the composition to a bacterial biofilm destroying its matrix. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface is skin. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface is a wound. The method of claim 3, wherein the wound is a poorly healing wound. The method of claim 4, wherein the poorly healing wound is a diabetic foot ulcer, venous leg ulcer, arterial foot ulcer, pressure ulcer, varicose ulcer, skin ulcer, burn or squeezed ulcer. A method according to any one of claim 3, wherein the wound contains necrotic tissue. The method of claim 6, wherein the necrotic tissue is a burn scab. The method of claim 6, wherein the composition also removes necrotic tissue. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface is an epithelial surface. The method of claim 9, wherein the epithelial surface is part of the surface of the oral cavity, surface of the cornea, genital tract, urinary tract, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, peritoneum, middle ear or prostate. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface is part of an inanimate object. The method of claim 11, wherein the surface is part of a medical implantable device. The method of claim 12, wherein the medical implantable device is a catheter, a stent, a plate for holding bone fragments, a screw, a pin or a rod, a spinal disc, an implantable tube in the ear, or a contact lens.
