SOLUTION: An ultrasonic probe 10 comprises: a pressing plate 31 disposed ON an ultrasonic transmitting and receiving surface a pressure measurement part 21 for measuring the pressure between the pressing plate and a subject and an automatic pressing mechanism 22 for controlling the pressing motion based ON the pressure measured by the pressure measurement part. This structure makes it possible to automatically press and move the ultrasonic probe ON the subject at a prescribed speed in one direction and so that high-quality elastic image data can be obtained at any time and the reproductivity of the pressing motion can be maintained.
