PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous tricalcium phosphate-based sintered body by which an implant material, which swiftly guides bone structure formation and has practical mechanical strength and at the same time can be substituted with a new bone by being naturally disappeared in vivo, can be realized.

SOLUTION: The porous tricalcium phosphate-based sintered body is one that is obtained by firing &beta-tricalcium phosphate calcination particles having a particle size in the range of 0.1-25 &mum and that has pores substantially oriented in one direction, wherein preferably it has pore characteristics such as a porosity of 40-90% and an average cross sectional area for every pore of 0.05×10-3to 100×10-3mm2in both of the first cross section in perpendicular to the orientation direction of the pore and of the second cross section that is parallel to the first cross section and spaced 5 mm apart from the first cross section in the orientation direction of the pore.
