The present invention relates to a composition containing an extract of Sargassum macrocarpum for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition containing an extract of Sargassum macrocarpum as an active ingredient, which exhibits pharmacological effects by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines, for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases. According to the present invention, the extract of Sargassum macrocarpum inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, and thus exhibits anti-inflammatory activity.
