The bone anchor disclosed herein includes a tulip housing with a distal radially expandable portion, a threaded shank having a proximal ball head, a pressure cap, and a retaining ring that limits radial expansion of the distal radially expandable portion. During assembly, the pressure cap and the proximal ball head through the distal end of the radially expandable portion. The retaining ring is positioned around the distal radially expandable portion of the tulip housing to prevent distal movement of the pressure cap and the proximal ball head.
