The first and second end supports 14 are used to mount a patient table conditioned by a carriage 46 having pawl elements. The carriage includes a stop having a support surface for the patient table. The tower using the gear rack interacts with the carriage pawl element to position the patient table relative to the first and second end supports of the operating table.
