Extracts obtained from or obtainable from Rubus idaeus (red raspberry) for use in treating or preventing inflammation are disclosed. The inflammation may be arthritis. The extract may reduce joint degeneration and swelling. The leaves and stems may be ground and extracted in an aqueous ethanol solvent. The extract may be formulated into a pharmaceutical composition suitable for oral, rectal, nasal, pulmonary, buccal, sublingual, transdermal, intracisternal, intraperitoneal or parenteral administration, or formulated into a food or drink composition or product. The composition may be suitable for treating animals and/or humans.
