PURPOSE: A composition containing guava leaf extract is provided to suppress MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation needed for metastasis and cancer invasion. CONSTITUTION: A composition for suppressing metastasis or cancer invasion contains guava leaf extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, anhydrous or hydrous low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, or 1,3-butylene glycol. The extract also an additional fraction prepared by fractioning the solvent extract with methanol, butanol, n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, or water.
