Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods, processes and systems for promoting and encouraging the beneficial recycling of food waste. In one aspect, disclosed herein is a process for producing a feedstock for an animal feed. The process comprises providing a categorised food waste collected from producers of the categorised food waste; treating the categorised food waste to destroy substantially all pathogens; grinding the categorised food waste; and forming the treated and ground food waste into the feedstock.
