The present invention relates to a novel, efficient and adaptable method and apparatus that is used to collect larger volume of umbilical cord blood from isolated and expelled umbilical cord and placenta, with ease, efficiency and adaptability. More specifically the present invention relates to apparatus and method that allows larger volume of umbilical cord blood by cutting the umbilical vein and then doing perfusion of isolated and expelled umbilical cord and placenta for maximum cord blood collection with ease, efficiency and adaptability, that is carried out with minimal assistance under various collection scenarios likely to encountered during collection and an apparatus for achieving the above method. The isolated and expelled placenta can be exsanguinated, partially- exsanguinated or non-exsanguinated.
