The present invention relates to a cutting holding unit (80, 100) for planting cuttings (90) in a cultivation medium (95). The cutting holding unit (80, 100) comprises a cutting clamp (81, 101) and a holding device (83, 105). The cutting clamp (81, 101) comprises two opposing members (82, 102) arranged for clamping a portion of a cutting (90) at a clamping position. The holding device (83, 105) comprises two opposing members (107) arranged for supporting the cutting (90) at a position closer to the cutting end that is to be put into the cultivation medium (95) than the clamping position. The cutting clamp (81, 101) and the holding device (83, 105) are connected to each other such that the opposing members (82, 102； 107) of the holding device and the cutting clamp are moveable towards and away of each other simultaneously. The distance between the opposing members (82, 102) of the cutting clamp and the opposing members (107) of the holding device is variable.
