PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel capable of braking a spool by a braking force except a friction force brought about by a braking plate.SOLUTION: A fishing reel of one embodiment has a spool around which a fishing line is wound. The fishing reel includes: a rotary member which is rotated in such a manner as to interlock with spool rotation; a first magnet that is provided in the rotary member; a fixing member which is arranged with a predetermined clearance between itself and the rotary member, which has a first recess opened in the predetermined clearance, and which is fixed to a predetermined member; and a magnetic fluid that is housed in the predetermined clearance.
