An access portal for a pet carrier allows a pet owner to insert a hand intothe pet carrier but prevents the animal contained therein from escapingthrough the access portal. The access portal may be blocked by an elasticbarrier with an aperture that stretches to allow the pet owner to gain accessto the interior of the pet carrier. Doors covering the access portal on theinside and/or the outside of the carrier may also be used instead of, or inconjunction with the elastic barrier.
