Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zur Erzeugung Wirkstoff-beladener wässriger Aerosole, die als wesentlichen Bestandteil ein Kompartiment umfassen, das mit einem Adsorptionsmittel beladen ist, das bei Kontaktierung mit Wasser Wasser in einem exothermen Prozess adsorbiert, wobei auch ein Teil des Wassers verdampft und in die Gasphase gelangt. Für den Fall, dass das Wasser mit einem Wirkstoff beladen ist oder beispielsweise das Adsorptionsmittel mit einem Wirkstoff vermischt ist, bildet sich ein mit Wirkstoff beladenes wässriges Aerosol.
