In certain embodiments of this invention, the formulation consists essentially of polyethylene glycol 8000, which aids in patient tolerance and endoscope insertion. The formulation may be administered in a variety of dosage forms including, but not limited to, a solid or liquid dosage form. In certain embodiments, the composition is useful in purging the colon completely. In other embodiments, the composition is useful as a laxative.
