The present invention provides a biosafe and useful vector to transfer genetic material to CD14+ mononuclear cells (monocytcs and monocytc-dcrivcd macrophagcs) in an efficient and specific manner. The embodiment of the invention makes use of the chimeric human adenovirus vectors 5 carrying the short fiber of enterotropic Ad40 to transfer genetic material to the target CD14+ mononuclear cells.
