The methods may include the steps of sensing pressure in a fluid passage between an implanted pump mechanism and an implanted outlet port and determining that an implanted side port has been accessed by a hypodermic needle based on a predetermined change in pressure in the fluid passage between the implanted pump mechanism and the implanted outlet port.
