A stack 58 of individually separable packages 2, 4 suitable for contact lenses. Each individual lens 16 is packaged between two surfaces, wherein a first surface 6 is provided by a first one of the individually separable packages 2 and a second surface 12 is provided by a second one of the individually separable packages 4. The packages may be essentially identical, and may comprise a peripheral portion with a protruding flange 10 (fig 1b), and a concave shaped cup portion to contain the lens and a liquid 14. A holder 7b may also be provided to accommodate the stack 58 of packages and dispense them individually 62, having biasing means to urge the stack out of the holder. A method is further provided for: forming a plurality of packages inserting a contact lens and an aliquot of aqueous liquid into a first package, and sealing the lens and liquid in the first package by positioning a second package on top and sealing the second package to the first. These steps may be repeated to build up the stack of packages, and the uppermost package may be sealed with a peelable film or foil 22.
